For the fourth

Hello and happy 4th of July / US independence declaring day / bash for beating Britain. I know how fortunate I was in so many senses to grow up safe and housed and going to school and never going hungry in the suburbs in the United States. I also know that good fortune came not just from good parts of my family and culture and country but also from the worst parts, the worst harms done, which reach around the world and through the whole hot future. That’s where my feelings toward my country tend to focus. Even on the 4th of July.
